Its been forever!!!

Summer has been crazy and luckily I had time for a few projects.  One that I had been wanting to do for a while was give our dressers a MAKE OVER. They are really nice dressers, they are just old and out dated. We got them for free from my moms friend. We were a young newly wed couple who was happy to get anything we could. Now I'm especially glad she gave them to us because I LOVE THEM!

Here they are before.

I almost forgot to take before pictures, so that's why the drawer is missing. I don't know if you can tell really well from this picture but they have some designs in the wood and because of those I decided refinishing was not an option. the handles were broken and boring also.

The finished product ...........................

sorry this first one is kind of blurry, but I wanted to have the mirror in one. however please ignore me sick self in the mirror.

It's amazing to me how much brighter our room looks with this lighter color. I really love how they turned out. K so here's how I did it!

Step 1: SPRAY PAINT! I love spray paint. I used just regular white ( not the cheap white it doesn't work very well). I primed it all first with spray paint primer and then I used white spray paint. Don't forget to remove the knobs. Especially if your going to use them again.

Step 2:  I sanded the edges to make it look old and worn. Then I used wood stain and a wash cloth to give it the antique look. You put some stain on and then whip it off. I made sure to go in every direction with the stain so that there were no clear lines.

Step 3: Spray paint again. This time is clear though. This just gives finished look.

Step 4:   The knobs. I really wanted glass knobs to continue with the old look. (this was my splurge)
I got them at  Home Depot but they were a lil expensive! (cheaper than a new dresser though.

The total cost:
Dressers : free
Spray paint : $6
Knobs :   $60

Total:  $66
The result is worth every penny though!
com back soon and I'll show you my  new wall layout and some fall decor ideas!

Valentines DIY!!!!

It's time for another Holliday! And of course I have not decorations, so I went to the craft room to see what I could come up with!!!! Our house needed a little "love" in the air! The first thing I made was a wreath. I must really like to make wreaths! It turned our cute for the most paft but I can't decide what to do to finish it off. Ill post new pictures when I decide what to do with the top but for now the rest of it turned out cute. I just covered a foam wreath with white fabric with red polka dots, then I cut hearts out of red fabric and made flowers out of pink and purple silk fabrick. The flowers were really easy I just folded the fabrick over a bunch of times and then cut on the non folded edge some flower pedals and then open it up and theres a flower. Then you place a dab of hot glue in the center of each petal and bunch the fabric and then repeat for the following layers! I decided to add a little bling because everyone knows life is better with Bling!!! The wooden letters I painted and hooked on with ribbon. Again adding bling!
The next thigs I made were the good old pictures frame art with paper and what ever else I could find!! The big one is kind of hard to see in the pictures but it says BE MINE. I did the letters with pink ribbon. the heart inside is purple fabric and of course some bling.  The smaller one is my favorite. I made it with some coordinating scrapbook paper. It says love and the o is a heart made our of little half pearls. I cut the letters out in two colors and layed them over each other to add a little flair!

I bought the cady jar you see bove from Tia Pan in Utah for like a dollar and filled it with candy hearts! I also filled another one like it with some sparkle hearts and valentines tissue papers as well as a large vase. I decided rather than fake roses I would use some heart sticks. I got everything I needed for the jars at the dollar store!!!  The final craft was a wood block. I had some sitting around in the craft room so I painted it pink and cut out some paper to go over it. I used some other wodden letters I bought at Joannes for like $2 to make the I and U, then cut out a big heart to go behind them and then I added some Bling of course. a little bow and a small purple heart! ( I used Modge Podge as the adhesive).  Hope you can find some fun easy ideas here! Happy Valentines day may your house be filled with "Love!"

Home AT Last!!! The Nursery!

After a number of months of being homeless( we had places to live just really close  or underneath other people!) We were finally able to get back into our home in Chubbuck. I decided to share with you some of the fune things I have made for our home! Hopefully you will get some ideas for something that might work for you!

I'll start with The nursery. I made some of these things when I first had Lexi but it took the second time around to finish it off how I wanted. I painted this mirror and then baught some christmas ornament birds after Christmas at Joannes and I painted them to match her room and put them on the mirror! sorry not a great pic.

Matt and I made these when we knew we were having a girl and I decided I wanted the nursery to have an earthy feel to. I wanted birds and trees and flowers. We cut some willows from behind his parents house and made this mobile to go over her crip as well as the letters that spell her name. The flowers I bought from hobby lobby and just cut them out of the boquet and placed them around the ring. Willows are a  really wet wood so we formed them while they were wet and then used wire to hold them im place. After they dried we removed most of the wire and this is the final product.

Above is pictured  wall art I made. I often times get my ideas from Pottery Barn because I love their stuff, but I can't afford most of it so I copy them and add my own twist. That's where this idea came from. I painted art canvases pink and then cut out the pictures I wanted with some old fabric my grandma had given me. I then hand stiched the cut-outs onto the canvas. I was really excited how they turned out****.This item is pictured above with the flower mobile.***  Hope you enjoyed some fun Ideas from our nursery to yours!

stockings!

Yesterday I was wanting some stockings for christmas. Sooo... of course I decided to make some! I wanted to make them for everyone but I also wanted them to all be different in the fabrics because I know well have to make more some day. I wanted them to have a similar look but not be the same at all. I Think I achieved that! I hope you enjoy! I didn't have a patter I just cut on out of paper and cut them out all the same. The best thing about crafting is that the imperfections make things unique!

Matt's stocking!

mine! The toe looks a little akward in this picture but I promise its round and not goofy!

This is lexi's !!!
I think they turned out well and I am getting more excited about Christmas!

Christmas DIY

It's that time of year! The most wonderful time of the year! I love Christmas and I was wanting to get into the Christmas spirit so I made a few decorations. The first project I made was for my moms formal living room. I spray painted a brown stick wreath black and then I wrapped a white feather bowa around part of it. ( I found it in the dress of drawer) and then I bought some silver Christmas bulbs at the stove for 2 bucks. The final touch was a large bow tied from ribbon with silver sparkles. This project cost about $4 because I already had the wreath. I hung the wreath over a large Mirror to finish it off.

The next project I did was more for myself. I took three old frames that my cousin was going to give to DI and I made some fun wall decor out of them. She had already spray painted then white so that was pefect. The first one I made was a Button tree I used some scrapbook paper for the background and then just glued on white and red buttons in the shape of a christmas tree.

The next one I did was the HO HO HO. I wanted to keep some continuity so I kept using buttons on each picture. I used scrap book paper again for the back ground  and I just drew some "H"s on paper and then cut out the one I liked and kept tracing it until I had enough.
Notice taht I used the scraps from the black paper on picture on to make the letter H so that they would all match.

The final one I did was my favorite and it was an accident. I needed one more and I didn't know what to do so I decided rather than cut out a bunch of letters to write Merry Christmas or something I would make a present and write a simple word like Joy. I used only scrapbook paper again and a few buttons. Here is picture number 3 .

This project only required 3 old picture frames painted white, 3 pages of scrapbook paper and a few buttons! I was really excited about how it turned out and I was especially excited that I did this project with only things I had around the house!

Hope you have as much fun as I did decorating for Christmas!!

Fall Decor

I was wanting some fun fall decorations, but I didn't want to spend the money to buy some so I made a few of my own. I made a fall picture and a wreath. The picture I made was from some all fabric my grandma gave me and I sewed it onto some fabric that would cover the cardboard back of a picture frame. The wreath I used some old fabric also form my grandma to cover an foam wreath. I then made some Rosettes from a tutorial I found online and added them to the wreath. These were both really simple and fun projects.
